It's a psychologically complex film, but weirdly i was never seduced by it. Nice Italian backgrounds but poor use of them most of the time, as they rarely become part of the story - oh Venice, you deserved better than fifteen pale minutes. Compelling kind of sociopath performance by Damon, but was really expecting a more audacious direction by Minghella. Never read Highsmith's novel so not sure if it the blurred and shady moral decay around the characters was due to it or due to Minghella. Either way, meehhh.
