In an interview with The A.V. Club, Bronson Pinchot - the wonderful Serge, by far the best thing on this disasterous script - claimed that Eddie Murphy "was really depressed" at the time, claiming that he was low-spirited and had a low energy level on set. And let me tell you, it came out really obvious on the final cut, as I was looking for trivia related to this "annoyed" Axel Foley even before the movie ended. Terrible story, mediocre directing - Landis has nothing on Tony Scott - and absolutely no charisma by Murphy in a character that thrived before exactly by his... charisma. The only Beverly Hills Cop movie not produced by Jerry Bruckheimer... and boy, he was missed.
