Singin’ in the Rain (1952)

I get it why "Singin' in the Rain" is so famous and celebrated. I really do, trust me: it is technically and visually impressive most of the times and the choreography, particularly in the large ensemble numbers, was as groundbreaking as vibrant at the time. But it stops there for me, as its plot felt completely thin, serving only as a vehicle for the "musical" show. No depth to be found - characters or storywise - and was it just me or Donald O’Connor performance was way more exciting than Kelly's one? The "Make them laugh" bit was just phenomenal in every aspect.
