The Dinner (2017)

"History can't compete with video games, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Kik, Burn Note, Whisper, Yik Yak, Skype, 90m. You see, kids, history can't compete. History is over. Everything is happening in this second". Terrible, terrible direction and artistic/filmmaking choices by Israeli born Oren Moverman, one more living example that screenwriters should sometimes avoid the temptation to sit on the golden chair - Frank Miller, David Koepp, Diablo Cody, David S. Goyer, just to name a few. Story and cast wise, it could have worked - Rebecca Hall is phenomenal -, but it all just got lost on translation, from paper to screen. Too long, too boring, too messy - what about those Gettysburg references?!?
