Biosphere (2022)

It is one of those strange but clever little sci-fi chamber pieces. It starts in a modest two-man apocalyptic bunker and then sprints into places you’d never predict. Anchored by the easy, lived-in chemistry of Mark Duplass and Sterling K. Brown - both delivering performances so natural they keep the scripts' wildest turns emotionally grounded -, the story blends humour, awkward sincerity and big philosophical swings as it pokes at survival, gender, fate and even an odd Super Mario metaphor. It’s lo-fi sci-fi with a beating heart, even if the final act feels messy and incomplete.
